The Elvis Ride 09/20/2006 - Wednesday

Wednesday morning brought one of the biggest highlights of the trip, the Barber Museum.  This is something everyone who loves motorcycles really needs to see.  It is located in Birmingham, Alabama and it is an amazing place.  It sits on the edge of Barber Motorsports Park.  This really is a first class facility.  Mid Ohio has really improved over the years and is quite a nice place, but Barber is like being in a state park.  The grounds are unbelievably well maintained and it is just a beautiful place.

The Elvis Ride 09/19/2006 - Tuesday

It rained all night long Monday night and we woke up Tuesday morning to more rain.  The weather forecast did not look good at all.  Rain all day and the temperature dropping to 40 degrees.  We were supposed to leave the Gap and head into Georgia and then towards Birmingham, but I kind of thought if might be a good idea to just stay at the Gap one more day until the weather blew through.  Mark would hear nothing of this and was totally in favor of heading out, so this is what we did.  It turns out that this was a good idea because it was not long until the rain cleared up and we really did have a beautiful day of riding.

The Elvis Ride 09/18/2006 - Monday

I got another early start this morning and got a few sunrise runs.  Once again I was greeted by turkeys.  This time I ran into two of the little buggers.  I just don’t understand why they love standing in the road so much.

I still could not get Mark to do a sunrise run and he slept in.  It really would be smart for me to sleep in once in a while on these rides but I just can not bring myself to do it.  I feel guilty if I sleep in because I feel like I am sleeping away my trip.

The Elvis Ride 09/17/2006 - Sunday

I set my watch for 7:00AM and did a sunrise run of the Gap.  Sunrise is the absolute best time to ride the Gap.  There is nobody on the road for 1 to 2 hours after sunrise.  It is like having your own personal road.  The only downside to it is sometimes there is a little debris on the road because the traffic has not blown it off yet.

The Elvis Ride 09/16/2006 - Saturday

It is something how you come up with the idea for a ride in the middle of winter and it seems like the date you set is so far off in the future.  The next thing you know, you are packing the bike wondering what happened to all the time.  I have been very fortunate this year and have done a lot of riding and seen a lot of things and this ride would be the final big ride of the year.  It almost made me sad to start knowing that this would be the last one until next summer.
